A

Rs. 700

B

Rs. 750

C

Rs. 800

D

Rs. 850

View answer & explanation Ans: Rs. 750

Correct Answer: Rs. 750

Present worth = 930 x 100 / (100 + 8 x 3) = 93000 / 124 = Rs. 750.

Q 2 Mathematics True Discount Present Worth

The true discount on a bill due 9 months hence at 12% per annum is Rs. 540. Find the amount of the bill and its present worth.

A

Rs. 6000

B

Rs. 6500

C

Rs. 7000

D

Rs. 8000

View answer & explanation Ans: Rs. 6000

Correct Answer: Rs. 6000

Present worth = 540 x 100 / (12 x 9/12) = Rs. 6000, so the bill amount is 6000 + 540 = Rs. 6540; the options list only the present worth, Rs. 6000.

Q 3 Mathematics True Discount Present Worth

The present worth of Rs. 2310 due 2 1/2 years hence, the rate of interest being 15% per annum is:

A

Rs. 1400

B

Rs. 1680

C

Rs. 1720

D

Rs. 1750

View answer & explanation Ans: Rs. 1680

Correct Answer: Rs. 1680

Present worth = 2310 x 100 / (100 + 15 x 2.5) = 231000 / 137.5 = Rs. 1680.

Q 11 Mathematics True Discount Present Worth

A man wants to sell his scooter. There are two offers, one at Rs. 12000 cash and the other at a credit of Rs. 12880 to be paid after 8 months, money being at 18% per annum. Which is the better offer?

A

Rs. 12000 in cash

B

Rs. 13000 in cash

C

Rs. 14000 in cash

D

Rs. 15000 in cash

View answer & explanation Ans: Rs. 12000 in cash

Correct Answer: Rs. 12000 in cash

The present worth of the credit offer is 12880 x 100 / (100 + 18 x 8/12) = Rs. 11500, less than Rs. 12000 cash, so the cash offer is better.

Q 14 Mathematics True Discount Present Worth

A trader owes a merchant Rs. 10028 due one year hence. The trader wants to settle the account after 3 months. If the rate of interest is 12% per annum, how much cash should he pay?

B

Rs. 8700

C

Rs. 9200

D

Rs. 9800

View answer & explanation Ans: Rs. 9200

Correct Answer: Rs. 9200

He pays 9 months early, so he pays the present worth 10028 x 100 / (100 + 12 x 9/12) = 10028 x 100 / 109 = Rs. 9200.

Q 15 Mathematics True Discount Present Worth

A man buys a watch for Rs. 1950 in cash and sells it for Rs. 2200 at a credit of one year. If the rate of interest 10% per annum, the man gains:

A

B

gains Rs. 50

C

loses Rs. 30

D

loses Rs. 45

View answer & explanation Ans: gains Rs. 50

Correct Answer: gains Rs. 50

The present worth of Rs. 2200 due in one year at 10% is 2200 / 1.10 = Rs. 2000, so he gains 2000 - 1950 = Rs. 50.

No Dropdown
Q 5 Mathematics True Discount Rate Percent

A

10%

B

15%

C

18%

D

22%

View answer & explanation Ans: 15%

Correct Answer: 15%

Present worth = 2562 - 122 = Rs. 2440, so 122 = 2440 x R x (4/12) / 100, giving R = 15%.

Q 8 Mathematics True Discount Rate Percent

The interest on Rs. 750 for 2 years is the same as the true discount on Rs. 960 due 2 years hence. If the rate of interest is the same in both cases, it is:

Simple interest 750 x R x 2 / 100 = 15R equals true discount 960 x R x 2 / (100 + 2R), giving 15(100 + 2R) = 1920, so R = 14%.

Q 12 Mathematics True Discount Rate Percent

View answer & explanation Ans: 16 2/3%

Correct Answer: 16 2/3%

The present worth of Rs. 688.50 must be 600 x 1.02 = Rs. 612, so 688.50 x 100 / (100 + R x 9/12) = 612, giving R = 16 2/3%.
